COVID-19 Information

Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic

This is a very concerning time for everyone right now. We want to reassure you that we are continuing to take the greatest care of our families and arrange funerals in the best possible way. We are keeping up to date with the latest government guidance on funerals and will keep our families informed of any changes.

If someone has passed away at home.

Please contact us at any time, we still cover a 24hr service. We will ask you for the normal information, but we will now also include asking if you know if the deceased or anyone in the property has tested positive for coronavirus. When we arrive, our men will be wearing PPE as a standard precaution, in the event that someone could be asymptomatic. We ask that you follow social distancing whilst our staff are with you.

Arranging the funeral

Where possible we are trying to keep you safe as well as our staff. We will arrange funerals over the phone wherever possible, to minimise contact. Once done we will send the funeral director to your home to hand you the paperwork that has been completed, it will be clearly labelled for you to sign. It is nice for you to meet the funeral director so you know who will be looking after you on the day of the funeral.

If you come to the funeral home to sign the paperwork then you will be asked to wear a mask and sanitise your hands.

All paperwork will be laid out ready for you visit and clearly marked for signing.

  • There are gloves if you wish, masks and automatic hand sanitiser are available in reception.
  • No more than 2 clients may visit the home at any time.
  • We regularly clean all surfaces in the funeral home and use a sanitising fogging machine to sanitise the air.

Note:

During this lockdown we are not offering limousines on funerals. We will bring the hearse to an address should family want to follow to the crematorium.
If the deceased has been tested positive for COVID-19 then due to the airborne nature of the virus we cannot permit visiting in the chapel.
We also cannot take fingerprints for jewellery but you do have the option of ashes into glass keepsakes.

We apologise for any additional stress this may cause but we have a duty of care to you our client and also to the health and safety of our staff.

What we do

From time to time, everyone will need to arrange a funeral for someone their close to, or even themselves if they take out a funeral plan. However, seeking expert advice and support from funeral directors near Portishead, like us at Brunel Funeral Directors, can be comforting at this difficult and emotional time.

On the edge of Westbury on Trym, Bristol, we have a new, peaceful funeral home which is bright and welcoming, and just a short drive from Portishead. It’s here that the deceased will be taken to from the hospital or place of death and where you can come to discuss the arrangements of the funeral.

Funeral services and packages

Our caring and compassion team is on hand 24/7 to fully support you through the process of arranging the funeral and give you the time you need to make the choices that are right for you and the rest of your family.

We offer a variety of funeral packages, including:

  • Direct Cremation Service – a simple cremation with no one attending, no minister or service – at a fixed price of £1495 (inclusive of disbursements). Direct crematoriums are often the choice of those who want to keep things simple for their family when they die, as the bereaved don’t have to make any tough decisions about the coffin, flower arrangements, transport and venues.
  • The Brunel Service – our most popular package, delivered with complete compassion and care and available from £1950. This package includes the conveyancing of the deceased into our funeral home, preparation and coffin. We’ll also organise the documents and doctor and minister fees – not to mention the hearse, limousine, directors and bearers (if required).
  • A full tailored service – this is our favourite option as it allows you to create a personal commemoration to celebrate the life of the person who has died. This funeral package starts from £2175 and includes specialist hearses, coffins, flower arrangements, music, etc.

Additional Funeral services

You’ll find that most funeral directors in Portishead will help you to organise all the details. However, at Brunel Funeral Directors, we not only assist you in deciding between a crematorium and burial – but provide a range of other services too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a funeral cost?

It’s difficult to provide an exact figure for a funeral, as it depends on your location and the type of service.

Funeral costs vary across the UK, with some regions charging more than others. For example, you’re likely to pay more for a funeral in London than you would for a funeral in Portishead.

It’s also worth noting that cremation services are generally cheaper than burials – especially direct cremations with no mourners, minister or ceremony. With this fuss-free option, only the funeral director and pallbearers are present, allowing the family to commemorate the life of their loved one at a later date.

Other factors that influence the price of a funeral include funeral director fees, third-party fees, and additional items and services.

Funeral director fees account for 50-60% of the funeral costs. However, it includes collection, storage and preparation of the body for the service.

Though not something you can expect from all funeral directors in Portishead, some help with the funeral arrangements and provide additional items, such as flowers, masonry and memorabilia too. We certainly do at Brunel Funeral Directors!

Take a look at our price list here and, to discuss your requirements with our funeral directors near Portishead, give us a call on 0117 374 2002.

Do you recommend taking out a pre-paid funeral plan?

Yes – we would always advise taking out a pre-paid funeral plan, as it not only protects you against the rising costs of funerals but also saves your family the financial burden of making the arrangements for your funeral.

Another reason why it’s worth taking out a funeral plan – like the ones we supply from Golden Leaves – is that you can choose the funeral you would like, and be remembered in the way you want to be.

You have free reign on every detail, from the coffin to the type of funeral service, flowers, music and readings, which also means your loved ones won’t be left to guess what you would have wanted.

If you’re worried you won’t be able to afford a funeral plan, don’t panic. Our funeral directors near Portishead are always on hand to talk you through the options available. You can either pay for your funeral in one lump sum upfront or spread the cost with monthly instalments.
